The best cocktails are just steps from your room
You played an early game of golf before hours spent shopping on El Paseo. You whittled away the afternoon soaking up rays by the pool. You spruced up and dressed to impress for a dinner out on the town. Now you want a nightcap, but you don’t want to go all night. Lucky for you, some of the best cocktails in Greater Palm Springs can be found just steps from your guest room at several of the valley’s most notable resorts. Relax with these top signature drinks at resort bars in the oasis.
At the Riviera Palm Springs' Landing Bar & Lounge, you’ll find a mint green Hollywood regency paradise, sprawled out into intimate vignette seating under mood-making colored lights. Sip a Visto Chino amidst the glam, a blend of Ketel One vodka, Thai basil and watermelon shrub spritzed with club soda. Or, if your tooth runs sweet, go for the Chocolate Manhattan made with rye whiskey, agave and chocolate bitters. It goes perfect with the Knipschildt chocolate tasting where you can choose three, five or eight pieces from a fun menu selection all with women’s names. We love the Louise—a white chocolate ganache flavored with smoked hay.
Pinzimini at The Westin Mission Hills Golf Resort & Spa boasts an award-winning Caliente Margarita, concocted of Tanteo jalapeno tequila, grapefruit juice, Cointreau, fresh lime juice and agave that is a bonafide mouth-pleaser. Pair it with a small plate of butcher-block meatball sliders for a tangy treat.
While at The Ritz-Carlton, Rancho Mirage, you might want to do it up royal with a classic #9 Negroni at State Fare Bar + Kitchen. Made in-house and cask-aged with Plymouth, Beefeater and Bluecoat gins, Vya, Boissiere, Cinzano vermouths, Campari, Aperol and Avera Amaro, it is the perfect accompaniment to the panoramic view you’ll find just outside on the adjoining terrace.
Last year, the Doubletree by Hilton Golf Resort Palm Springs renovated their Mira Bar into a bright and airy hotspot with modern décor and a special namesake margarita. The Mira Margarita mirrors the resort’s famous house-made guacamole by building on Avion Silver Tequila with the following ingredients: fresh lemon and lime, jalapeno, cilantro and sea salt. The expansive bar features floor-to-ceiling windows for mountain and golf course views.
The Tuscan-inspired Miramonte Resort and Spa features a Vineyard Lounge where you’ll find the romantic Miramonte Sunset. The drink consists of El Jimador Silver Tequila with blood orange juice and a splash of Midori melon at its base. It’s known for its tantalizing looks and sneaky effect on the brain. It is excellent alongside a slab of roasted grape and gorgonzola flatbread.
The sophisticated and lively Lobby Bar at the JW Marriott Desert Springs Resort is always a hub of action and merriment. Their Signature Margarita features Asombroso Extra Anejo Tequila, Grand Marnier 1880 Liqueur, fresh squeezed lime juice and agave nectar. They are renowned for being addictive—it’s impossible not to spring for two! The bar faces a gorgeous view of the Santa Rosas and the property’s gondola deck that sets sail through Venetian-inspired waterways. Late night sushi is available there too, or you might wander over to the Blue Star Lounge for an order of carne asada tater tots.
For a swanky, retro vibe that pays homage to the 1960’s Rat Pack days, visit Frank’s Place Restaurant & Lounge at the Indian Wells Resort Hotel. Order up a stiff Manhattan in the cocktail lounge to feel transported back to another time—on weekends October through May crooner Frankie DiSalvo will help you get there with songs by Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and other favorites from the Great American Songbook.
Post-dinner cocktails at the casual Ernie’s Bar & Grill at the La Quinta Resort and Club include two wildly, creative dessert drinks. The Key Lime Pie mixes Absolut vanilla vodka with key lime juice and cream, served with a graham cracker rim. The Thin Mint is a refreshing blend of Godiva Chocolate liqueur, Crème de Menthe, fresh chocolate and cream served on the rocks.
If beer is your beverage of choice, R Bar at the Omni Rancho Las Palmas Resort and Spa is a standard go-to. They are known for their variety of local beers on tap from Coachella Valley Brewing Co., Stone Brewing and the La Quinta Brewing Company. It is a great environment to watch a game or you can take your IPA out to the nearby plaza to sit around a fire pit under the stars.
