8 Ways to Go Way Beyond Coachella
Whether you have Coachella tickets or just want to be part of the festival action, here are eight ways you can go beyond Coachella in Greater Palm Springs.
1. Get the festival look, braids and all
Forget your electric blue mascara at home? No problem. The valley’s got you covered. Beauty expert Michele Dolan will be on hand at the Hyatt Regency Indian Wells Resort and Spa in Indian Wells to craft your custom flower headdress, braid your hair with ribbons and feathers, paint your face with glitter highlights, adorn your body with neon color or affix your flesh with a multitude of temporary tattoos. Services are available on a walk-in basis in the hotel's main lobby during Coachella weekends.
2. Find your festival fringe
Girls, what about your cute fringe attire, tribal summer dresses or ethno-print Boho sandals? Boys, did you bring your light summer pants and pastel print bandanas? At Nordstrom Rack Town Center, Lush Couture, Anthropologie, Trina Turk | Mister Turk and Wil Stiles, you’ll find all the trendiest nouveau-riche hippie and skimpy modernist warm weather gear.
3. Soak up a pool party on festival weekends
Everyone needs a break from walking long hours from stage tent to stage tent under the desert sun. So while in between sets of your favorite bands, why not chill out waterside with a tall Arnold Palmer at one of the valley’s best resorts? In Palm Springs, the Riviera Palm Springs will open its gates to festivalgoers for a series of fun pool parties from 11-4 p.m. all three weekends. No cover charge, live DJs, Bacardi girls, shotskis and cabanas and daybeds available for rental on this ultra chic property all make this a fete to rival the fest.
Or hit up The Saguaro's Dirty Desert pool party for on-site sounds by Dr. Fresch or Hotel Garuda while lounging on a lux daybed with a pina colada in hand.
4. Sip on Coachella cocktails
Here are some other ways to get your drink on. From 12-6 p.m. on both Thursdays prior to Coachella weekends, Whole Foods in Palm Desert is hosting a pre-festival beer garden on the outdoor patio. This welcome party will get the revelry started with craft ale, food pairings, live music and good vibrations. A quarter donation, which goes to the Whole Planet Foundation, gets you in!
Over at The Ritz-Carlton, Rancho Mirage, State Fare Bar + Kitchen will make a Poker Face cocktail of pineapple juice, tequila, Cointreau and lime inspired by headliner Lady Gaga, as well as a Coachella Cooler spiked with ginger syrup and Jameson Whiskey. The property’s Edge Steakhouse will feature a Prickly Pear tequila and shiso leaf beverage for the occasion.
In Uptown Palm Springs, Draughtsman welcomes festivalgoers for some pre-concert rounds of corn hole and Connect Four on their outdoor games patio.
5. Find your own music festival
Looking for your own music festival? At the Hilton Palm Springs, Dayclub returns during both Coachella weekends. This means daily pool parties with special musical guests such as Skrillex.
Relax and recharge from your festival experience at one of the many spas around town. The destination is known for its healing mineral waters and atmosphere of chill, so why not find your own spa oasis in Greater Palm Springs?
7. Discover Desert X
Before leaving the Ace Hotel, don’t forget to pick up a map for Desert X, the sprawling exhibition of world-class art that is taking place from West to East valley. Spend some time road tripping to find the installations dotted across the landscape.
If you’re here on a Friday morning, also visit Desert Island, a parallel exhibition that explores the extremities of the Western Desert as an ever-shifting environment of resilience and isolation.

8. Fly into Greater Palm Springs
Still need a ride? If you live in the Southern California area and want to bypass the traffic that rises along Interstate 10 during both weekends, JetSuiteX is offering pop-up flights for $199 each way to the Coachella Valley throughout April. Flights occur between Burbank Airport in Los Angeles and Jacqueline Cochran Desert Resorts Regional Airport in Thermal, which is just a hop, skip and a jump away from the festival fields in Indio.
